Peterson Family Trip to New York!

We just got home from an amazing vacation to New York! It was so wonderful to get to spend time with most of Paul's family (we're sad you couldn't make it, Diana and Jeff!). As always, James absolutely loved all the attention. :) He especially misses his Uncle Jonathan.

We did so many things that I can't possibly cover them all in one blog entry, but I wanted to give a general overview of the trip so as to convey its overwhelming coolness. After that, I'm planning on writing individual posts on the places we went in order to do them the justice they're due. :)

We flew into New York City on Thursday morning (after flying through the night...very tiring!) and spent the day walking around the city. The Yankees/Angels game was that night, so we had a good time calling attention to ourselves as we walked around:

The game that night was pretty great, to say the least (though at that point Paul and I...and pretty much everyone else in the family...were trying very hard not to fall asleep from exhaustion).

The next morning, we drove (five hours!) to Cooperstown, NY to see the National Baseball Hall of Fame. You may be thinking that Paul and his dad would be the only ones to truly enjoy a museum full of baseball stuff, but you are wrong! We all had a BLAST (especially me :) ).

That night we drove to Rochester, NY and didn't get to our hotel until after 2:00am! In the morning we did a bleary-eyed session at the Palmyra Temple.

After that, we took a nap at the hotel before taking off to Niagara Falls! It was pretty dang impressive! It was bigger than I imagined it would be and also more beautiful. Stay tuned for more stories from our time at this famous landmark, including getting caught in a huge downpour while walking from one side of the park to the other!

We spent Sunday visiting with various families from Paul's parents' missions in Buffalo and the surrounding area. Between visits, we drove out to beautiful Letchworth State Park which is known as the "Grand Canyon of the east coast".

Monday was our last day in New York, and we spent it touring some of the church history sites in Palmyra. We saw the Smith family home, the Sacred Grove, the Grandin building where the Book of Mormon was published, and the Hill Cumorah.

We tried to do so many things that we barely made it to the airport in time for our flight! They were almost finished boarding as we ran up to the gate. :)

As usual, you can look at all of our pictures on our photo album: New York City, Cooperstown, Niagara Falls, Letchworth State Park, and Palmyra, though if you go look at all the pictures now, you can't get upset when you see some of them again in the upcoming posts. ;)

It looks like everyone had a great time! We are glad you got to see some cool stuff. I've never been to NYC, but I have been to Palmyra. It's pretty cool. We would have liked to be on the trip with everyone, especially getting those cool matching T-Shirts.
