Desert Island Five

Paul and I have been watching The Office lately (SO funny!). The other day we watched an episode towards the beginning of the second season where the temp starts a fire in the office, and they all get evacuated. When they're waiting to get the ok to go back in, Jim starts a game of Desert Island where they all have to name the five movies they would take with them to a Desert Island.

That night before falling asleep, Paul and I discussed our own Desert Island Five, and I was very pleased with mine. Here they are with explanations:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - My very favorite. :) Swashbuckling, witty banter, and--of course--Captain Jack Sparrow. This one was a no-brainer.

2. Ocean's Eleven - Another no-brainer for me. This one covers the comedy and good looking actors category. Plus it has a great soundtrack.

3. The Emperor's New Groove - More funny. :) I needed an animated movie in my five, and really, I can't top David Spade as a llama.

4. Newsies - This one fulfills my need for a musical. Singing and dancing galore! I figure I'll need something to sing along to on a desert island. (Close second for this slot: That Thing You Do! In fact, now that I think about it, I'm unsure again.)

5. You've Got Mail - This was the toughest choice. I knew I needed a good love story to finish out my five, but it was hard to narrow it down. In the end, I love Tom Hanks too much, so this one won. (Others that were in the running: Runaway Bride and While You Were Sleeping)

There you have it. You may notice that there aren't any serious movies on my list. I decided that if I were stranded I would need movies that I can watch over and over again and still love. All five of my choices fit that requirement. I also figure I would want lighthearted movies to keep my spirits up.

So, what are your Desert Island Five? :)

My five are movies that I can and have watched countless times.

1) Field of Dreams -- my all time fav. There was a time in my life where I would watch this classic every night before I went to sleep. Enough said.

2) Karate Kid II -- timeless classic. Romance and action set in Okinawa, Japan. Definitely can't loose with Miyagi and Daniel-san battling for their lives and honor. Plus, the movie was filmed in Hawaii and the bad guy was a close friend of my grandfather's.

3) For the Love of the Game -- Kevin Costner may not be able to act, but he knows baseball. This one hit home on too many levels not to become an instant fav.

4) The Matrix - Revolutionary to the film industry, deep in thought and perspective, and what can I say? Kick butt action!

5) Dark Knight - OK. This is a recent addition to the list. But if you don't want to count it because it is still in theaters, then Batman Begins can easily take its place. This movie is an emotional roller coaster keeping you on the edge of your seat. You can't beat the realistic violence mixed with a hero that is so complex and classic in his origins that you don't know if you want to admire, love, or hate him.

Well, there you have it. Call me a martial arts and baseball junky. But hey! I love this stuff!

1. Mr & Mrs Smith: Comedy, action, and romance all rolled up into one great film.
2. The Wedding Singer: Why don't I own this movie?
3. Oscar: My all time favorite. (These aren't in any particular order, by the by)
4. Robinhood: Best Disney movie, hands down. Plus, Robinhood is such a fox! :)
5. I can't decide between Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Stranger Than Fiction.

Here are my 5 movies:
1. Sound of Music...love that one, always have and always will
2. Can't live without "While You Were Sleeping" I nursed Stephanie to sleep almost every night watching that movie. It would be 2 a.m. and I was watching that movie crying at the same time.
3. Cinderella & Ever After ... animated and real people...I love a happy ending
4. Finding Never Land.... this makes me feel that dreams can come true ... and we can be free from the cares of the world...
5. And Enchanted....I love that movie! It makes me smile
